What changes when you leave a PEO?

A PEO co-employs your workforce and often bundles payroll and benefits with it. When you leave, your new payroll platform gives you the software, but the payroll work the PEO was doing lands on you or whoever is left.

That is the gap we fill. Our team becomes your payroll department, and we stay on for the long term.

What your payroll team does:

Gathers hours and payroll inputs

Prepares and reviews each payroll

Submits payroll after you approve it

Files and deposits payroll taxes

Handles new hires, terminations, deductions and garnishments

Registers state withholding and unemployment accounts

Prepares year-end W-2s

Answers employee paycheck questions

How it works

How does a PEO exit work?

We plan from your PEO end date and the states where you have employees, so the first pay run after the PEO is covered.

Tell us your PEO end date, your new payroll platform and the states where you have employees.

The move, step by step

1.

We register your state withholding and unemployment accounts in every state where you have employees.

2.

We track each registration until the account number is issued.

3.

While your new platform sets up the software, we learn your pay calendar, approvals and deductions.

4.

We coordinate deductions with your benefits broker and plan sponsors.

5.

We run your first payroll after the PEO, and you approve every run.

“Of all the consultants that I’ve actually had, I’d say PayAdvisors has been the best. And I think one of the reasons is that it’s not just a single person, it’s a team behind me.”

PEO exit questions

What is PEO exit payroll help?

When you leave a PEO that managed your payroll, our team manages it as your payroll department. We gather hours and inputs, prepare, review and submit each payroll, and file your payroll taxes.

What is the difference between a PEO and PayAdvisors?

A PEO co-employs your workforce and takes on employer liabilities, often bundled with payroll and benefits. PayAdvisors does not co-employ anyone: we run your payroll, and you stay the employer.

Do you set up our new payroll system?

Your new payroll platform’s team sets up the software. While they do, we learn your pay calendar, approvals and deductions, then run each payroll in the new system.

Do you handle state payroll tax registrations?

Yes, in every state. We register state income tax withholding and state unemployment insurance accounts, and local payroll taxes where required. We also close accounts you no longer need.

How long do state registrations take?

It depends on the state. Some issue account numbers right after online registration; others take several weeks. We track each one until it is issued.

We have an HR person. Do we still need a payroll team?

Many of our clients have an HR person, and we work with them closely. We specialize in payroll, so HR keeps HR and we run each payroll.

Which payroll systems do you work in?

We work in the payroll system you move to. You choose the platform; we run payroll in it.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

No. There is no minimum term. Service is month to month.

How long does onboarding take?

Onboarding runs in phases. Weeks 1 to 2 are onboarding and training. Weeks 3 to 4 are payroll takeover and your first live payroll with us. From week 5, we move into ongoing payroll optimization.
